About the DJOP & My Role

My work with the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection (DJOP) in Nonthaburi focused on developing English and computational skills programmes for juveniles, with the broader aim of providing practical education that could support rehabilitation and improve future opportunities after detention.

I worked as a student instructor and curriculum contributor, and throughout my involvement, I had:

  • Organised and delivered an online English teaching programme during the COVID-19 pandemic from October to December 2021

  • Helped develop a revised post-pandemic curriculum focused on practical computational and employability skills for juvenile learners

  • Designed and taught foundational Adobe Premiere Pro video-editing and computational skills, creating the first phase of the curriculum

  • Conducted 4 on-site instructional visits and 4 online courses between December 2022 and May 2023

  • Adapted teaching materials and instructional approaches based on learner engagement, feedback, and the operational environment of the detention centre

  • Received positive responses from participating juveniles, with reported interest in continuing their development of English and computational skills

  • Contributed to the centre's broader rehabilitation and follow-up objectives by providing structured educational opportunities intended to support juveniles beyond their period of detention

Project Description

Developed and delivered English and computational skills training for juveniles at the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection in Nonthaburi, Thailand. The project focused on providing practical, accessible education—including English, computer operation, and Adobe Premiere Pro video editing—to support rehabilitation, develop transferable skills, and strengthen educational opportunities for juveniles during and following their time in detention.

Impact

  1. Delivered 4 on-site visits and 4 online courses, establishing the first phase of a computational-skills curriculum for juveniles at the Nonthaburi facility.

  2. Developed and implemented a structured Adobe Premiere Pro Basics and Training curriculum, introducing practical digital-media and video-editing skills.

  3. Delivered an online English teaching programme from October–December 2021, maintaining educational engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  4. Contributed to the creation of a post-pandemic revised curriculum designed around practical computational and employability skills relevant to juvenile rehabilitation.

  5. Received positive learner feedback and reported interest in further English and computational training, supporting the continuation and refinement of the programme.

  6. Worked within a rehabilitation environment where the facility reported approximately 20% juvenile recidivism, contributing educational programming aligned with its broader Rectification, Rehabilitation, Improvement and Follow-up framework.

  7. Progressed from pandemic-era online teaching into in-person instructional delivery and curriculum development, expanding the programme's scope from English education into digital and computational skills.

  8. Created instructional content spanning English, computer operation, and Adobe Premiere Pro, giving participating juveniles exposure to both communication and practical digital competencies.
